I did something incredible yesterday morning.....
I had completed the second week of Couch to 5k, and thought I should just go for a light jog of my own. See where I get puffed out, how long I can jog without feeling exhausted... I wanted to see where my fitness ended.
I kept jogging. I stopped a few times because I was worried I would start to feel tired, rather than actually feeling it. It was amazing. I've never been able to do that before.
The only problem was the intense back pain that followed in the hours afterwards.
It started an hour after I had already finished working out, in the car on the way to work. My right ankle started, and then my lower back. It was unbearable.
So I stopped at the supermarket, grabbed some pain killers and some elastoplast sports strapping tape and was strapping my ankle up in the staff room, when a student teacher called Steve who had been doing his practicum at our school, stopped me and asked what I'd done. He then revealed that he was a musculoskeletal massage therapist and he could help me that night if I didnt mind a late appointment... And proceded to give me the most amazing foot massage ever. It felt loads better until I got to the appointment.
After the appointment, he left me feeling really good. I made another appointment for a week (he told me I have crooked hips and I asked him if he could monitor/massage me through the initial month of my running program), I drove home, got a good night's sleep and then when I woke up the pain was back. He told me that would happen, so I expected it. Thankfully the ankle was ok.
I put a heat pack on my back and it was amazing. INCREDIBLE. Most of the pain is gone.
I can't wait to try a free run tomorrow... I marked out 2.5km away from my house so that I could run exactly 5km every day. So far I've been running an average of 3.1km... I really want to work up to that 5km.
